Syl Johnson - The Complete Twinight Singles (2015)

Grande figure de la soul et du blues des années 60, Syl Johnson revient grâce à une belle initiative du label américain Numero Group qui a décidé de faire paraître une compilation des singles de l’artiste sortis précédemment chez Twinight Records. Trois albums du songwriter/chanteur sont ici mis en lumière : Dresses Too Short, Is It Because I’m Black et My Funky Funky Band. Trois opus qui démontrent pourquoi Johnson reste l’artiste le plus emblématique du label, lui ayant fournis une flopée de tubes tels que Different Strokes, Is It Because I’m Black ou encore Concrete Reservation. Syl Johnson, qui a connu une seconde jeunesse grâce à de nombreux rappeurs ayant pris un malin plaisir à sampler ses chansons, est un parfait représentant de l’âge d’or de la soul et cette compilation est l’outil idéal pour se remémorer cette grande époque.
