John Mayall was in England, Peter Torup was in Denmark, and Peps Persson was in Sweden. Just like Torup, he played and recorded with the legendary British and
American blues Blues Quality appeared in the mid-60s in the town
Orebro, but soon moved to Stockholm. Persson joined the band in 1969 and was very influential in a single album. His juicy bluesy voice
resembled vocals by Tony McPhee and even black Chicago bluesmen. Two things were covers of Little Walter Jacobs and Lightnin 'Hopkins, the other five were written
Persson. Skoglund and Tingberg made a jazz background, allowing the band to improvise in blues format. The result is a powerful instrumental with
driving accordion, sharp guitar, juicy organ chords, soul-jazz saxophone and explosive pipes, a little staccato piano and swing
rhythm section. In terms of level, this can be compared with the early work of Fleetwood Mac. The first version of the album cover, where the guys sit in the bushes of marijuana (hint
on the name!), was soon replaced by a more neutral one. In 1970, Persson became seriously ill and could no longer play with the group. When he is back to them
joined, it turned out, that now they move in different musical directions. Then Persson went to Chicago and recorded an album with black
bluesmen Sunnyland Slim and Jimmy Dawkins. Highly recommended for blues fans. Later recordings continue the blues rock line.
