Recruited by the Aladdin label in october 1951, Pee Wee is recording, from the following month, his first tracks with Maxwell Davis orchestra ("When it rains it pours"). But, the work with this label quickly stops due to lack of success. He signed with Imperial in june 1954 and found himself in the J&M studio in New Orleans. His guitar playing is more precise and elaborated and his singing more accomplished. Lots of highlights emerge like "Do unto others", "Hurry hurry", "I got news for you" and "Blues before dawn". He cut also "I need your love" which won a beautiful public success. End of 1955, we note that the single "Don't go" / "I must go on" was released under the Post imprint (owned by Imperial). His Imperial period, although very high artistic quality, seems a little less catchy and spontaneous than his Modern period. At that time, Pee Wee Crayton was one of the first guitarists to play on a Fender Stratocaster (given to him by Leo Fender himself).
