Alma Oscura is an exploration of culture, the poisons of social norms, race relations and the complexities navigated through society as we encounter love and death. Henderson uncovers the layers of her diverse background in English and Spanish. These compositions paint stories reflecting journeys imposed through the African Diaspora in connection to Henderson’s Panamanian, Montserratian, and vast Caribbean roots as they interplay with her North American upbringing. Produced by Michael Thurber (Stay Human on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, CDZA, The Royal Shakespeare Company) this album features original compositions that reflect the roster’s jazz, Latin jazz, flamenco, folk and classical roots.
