Devoting almost an entire CD to unaccompanied bass solos would seem to be a big mistake, but Glen Moore has the imagination and the skill to enable him to pull it off. "Oxeye" is a rhythmic masterpiece with the flavor of a folk song, while his sense of humor comes across in the strident miniature "If You Can't Beat 'Em, Beat 'Em! (for Tonya Harding)" and the equally sly "Four Queasy Pieces." A haunting rendition of the tragically short-lived bassist Scott LaFaro's "Jade Visions" is the only track not written by Moore. Although this release is likely to be most
appreciated by bassists, it is worth exploring by all. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
