A side project of the Grammy winning Partch Ensemble, Just Strings is Alison Bjorkedal on harps, John Schneider on guitars, and T.J. Troy on percussion and this collection presents a collection featuring the works of West Coast based composers, the Pulitzer Prize winning John Luther Adams, and his mentor Lou Harrison, the iconoclastic composer who weaved elements of new music with global influences throughout his long career. This revealing collection presents complimentary aspects of both composers’ works as well as the particularly American-West Coast contemporary classical perspective that both worked from. With Alaskan indigenous dances transcribed to just intonation principles along with the charm of Harrison’s Harp Suites, found in Harrison’s notebooks after his 2003 death, and a homage to Handel scored for harp and gamelan.
