It’s a delicate affair, a tender and heartfelt introspection carried on a looping drumbeat that sees Ternheim in a contemplative mood as she sings about the pain and memories that come with a lost friendship.

And that’s a mood that carries its way right into the heart of the new album. Ternheim has described A Space For Lost Time’s sound as “American west coast meets the dark Swedish woods,” and “like a windless black lake.”

She clearly has a way with words, and This Is The One is a song that reminds us of Ternheim’s undoubted ability as a lyricist. We met the only day it ever snowed / in all the gardens snowmen waved hello / Everything changes when you believe it won’t / that dawn is the loneliest place I know is as good an opening verse as she’s ever written.

That the track is a collaboration with Yttling bodes well too – the Scandinavian pop supremo produced Ternheim’s Swedish Grammy award-wining album Leaving On A Mayday.

The follow-up to that record – The Night Visitor – was recorded in Nashville, while All The Way To Rio saw Ternheim in the studio in – as the name suggests – Brazil.

A Space For Lost Time once again sees the singer/songwriter recording in a nomadic fashion, with sessions completed in Stockholm, New York and Los Angeles.

“I wrote the music for ‘This Is The One’ together with Bjorn Yttling from Peter Bjorn & John, the lyrics came long afterwards. It was a Thursday afternoon in Stockholm I ran into a person I use to be very close to. Now we were complete strangers, remember it was such a weird feeling. I went home straight after and wrote the words for the song.” (Anna Ternheim)
