Inside Out is John Martyn’s 5th album, the immediate follow-up to his highly acclaimed ‘Solid Air’ which was released earlier in 1973. Martyn’s techniques were changing radically when he recorded this LP, and the most significant change was his experimentation with electronics and echoplex effects. Seen at the time as a disappointment (after Solid Air) it is now possible to look back at this album with a clearer vision and realize it’s significance to his and others’ careers.
