Bill Evans - Bill Evans Fantasy / Milestone Series (1969-1977) [2012] CD-Rip

01. Bill Evans - Jazzhouse (1969)

Part of a 5-album Bill Evans SHM-CD cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "I Will Say Goodbye," "Alone (Again)," "Intuition," "Re: Person I Knew," and "Jazzhouse." This set is one of two albums (both reissued on CD) recorded by the Bill Evans Trio (with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell) at Copenhagen's Montmartre on one night in 1969 but not released initially until the late '80s. Evans sounds relaxed and swinging playing his usual repertoire. All of the songs (mostly standards) have been recorded by Evans at other times but the pianist's many fans certainly will not mind hearing these "alternate" versions of such tunes as "How Deep Is the Ocean," "How My Heart Sings," "Sleepin' Bee" and a light-hearted "California Here I Come."

01 - How Deep Is The Ocean
02 - How My Heart Sings

02. Bill Evans - Alone (Again) (1975)

Part of a 5-album Bill Evans SHM-CD cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "I Will Say Goodbye," "Alone (Again)," "Intuition," "Re: Person I Knew," and "Jazzhouse." Alone (Again) is a solo piano album by American jazz pianist Bill Evans, recorded in December 1975 but not released until 1977 on Fantasy Records.
To paraphrase President Kennedy's famous remark about Thomas Jefferson dining alone, when Bill Evans played solo piano there had never been such a gathering of intellect, ability, and expressiveness at a keyboard. A successor to Alone, for which he won a Grammy, Alone (Again) highlights all of Evans's strength: his exquisitely balanced time, the depth of his harmonic genius, the inimitable singing quality of his phrasing. His producers say that it was difficult to get Evans to record by himself. He claimed it was his one area of performance insecurity. Perhaps he was concerned about revealing as much of himself as he does in these pieces.

03. Bill Evans - Intuition (1974)

Part of a 5-album Bill Evans SHM-CD cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "I Will Say Goodbye," "Alone (Again)," "Intuition," "Re: Person I Knew," and "Jazzhouse." After seven years of their close relationship in his trio, Bill Evans in 1974 finally realized his dream of recording a duo album with bassist Eddie Gomez. Intuition is that album. One of the most brilliant of the young bassists influenced by Scott LaFaro, Gomez continued development of the role of the bass in Evans's trio as a fully contributory voice, not just a member of the rhythm section.
Gomez had contrived, years earlier, to be in a band opposite Evans at the Village Vanguard, in hopes that the pianist would like what he had heard. Evans did, and Gomez became an indispensable member of the trio, staying for more that a decade. The depth of their empathy is beautifully captured in this recording, with Evans playing acoustic piano and the electric model that was in vogue at the time.

05. The Bill Evans Trio - I Will Say Goodbye (1977)

Part of a 5-album Bill Evans SHM-CD cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "I Will Say Goodbye," "Alone (Again)," "Intuition," "Re: Person I Knew," and "Jazzhouse." The title refers to the Michel Legrand piece performed twice on the date, and to the fact that pianist Bill Evans was on the verge of switching labels from Fantasy to Warner Bros.
For his final Fantasy album, Evans, bassist Eddie Gómez, and drummer Eliot Zigmund perform memorable renditions of such songs as Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance," Johnny Mandel's "Seascape," and Burt Bacharach's underrated "A House Is Not a Home." The CD reissue adds two additional selections ("Nobody Else But Me" and "Orson's Theme") from this excellent series of sessions. Fine post-bop music from an influential piano giant.
