The only longplay group from Texas formed in 1969. In 1972, “ABC-Dunhill Records” signed a contract with them and the guys flew to Los Angeles to record their album “Rootin’ ”under the direction of producer and“ Steely Dan ”stars - Gary Katz, Donald Fagen, Walter Becker. The recording also featured Steely Dan guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, Mark Volman and Howie Kaylan from “The Turtles”. Donald Fagen played the piano in some songs and, together with Becker, even wrote the song “Canyon Ladies”. When “Navasota” went on their first tour in support of the album, they played “Lynyrd Skynyrd”, “REO Speedwagon” and “Boston” on their opening act! They are, along with “Deep Purple” and “J. Geils Band ”, the first to perform at the“ Houston Astrodome ”. They annealed throughout the 70s from east to west and played with “Humble Pie”, Joe Cocker, “Wishbone Ash”, “Trapeze”, “Bachman-Turner Overdrive”, “Canned Heat”, “ELO”, David Bowie , “Mountain”, “Emerson, Lake And Palmer”, “The Allman Brothers”, “ZZ Top”, “Molly Hatchet”, Peter Frampton, Elton John, “Ten Years After”, Frank Zappa, “Spirit”, “Savoy Brown ”, Chuck Berry, Ted Nugent,“ Jefferson Airplane ”,“ Santana ”and many others. In 1979, the group broke up. Only one of them - drummer Lindsey Minter, many years later, decided to return to music. Together with several musicians brought up on the musical traditions of the 60-70s, he created the reincarnation of his first group and called it “Navasota-Rio”.
