Matt Wilson's Good Trouble - Love Is The Whole Thing, We Are Only Pieces (2026) [Hi-Res]

American drummer and composer Matt Wilson releases his new album, Love Is the Whole Thing, We Are Only Pieces, on Palmetto Records. Inspired by lines from the Sufi poet Rumi, this project serves as a continuation of the "good trouble" ethos established in his Good Trouble ensemble's 2024 debut. The music addresses themes of unity, compassion, and human warmth over division and uncertainty, turning jazz into a sanctuary and a quiet statement.

For the recording, Wilson reunited with Good Trouble members Tia Fuller, Dawn Clement, Jeff Lederer, and Ben Allison, while welcoming alto saxophonist Anisha Rush into the core lineup after years of live collaborations. The release marks a 30-year milestone in Wilson's ongoing partnership with Palmetto Records and producer Matt Balitsaris. Visually framed by a custom quilt created by Wilson's wife for the album cover, the repertoire thoughtfully pairs Wilson's original compositions alongside works by visionary jazz figures and songwriters.
