A string orchestra can create impressions similar to those of a choir of human voices. Because they are melody instruments that can endure tones, like when singing, and can regulate tuning and dynamics very finely.

A string orchestra can thus reproduce the harmony and emotion of typical choral music - even if the text is naturally omitted, which only reinforces the expression. Some of the works on this SACD, all written in countries around the Baltic Sea, reflect the choral art in the composers' home countries.

In others, however, the source of inspiration is clearly instrumental. A beautiful compilation of "soft" orchestral music by composers of the 20th century.
