Lisa Cat-Berro - Solaxis (2026) [Hi-Res]

French saxophonist and composer Lisa Cat-Berro, a 2013 Victoires du Jazz nominee, established the distinct musical ensemble SOLAXIS. Built around the full expressive range of the saxophone family—from soprano to baritone—the project brings together a quintet of prominent French saxophonists and soloists: alongside Lisa Cat-Berro, the group features Géraldine Laurent, Camille Maussion, Sophie Alour, and Céline Bonacina. This horn section is anchored by a rhythm section consisting of electric bassist Timothée Robert and drummer Guillaume Lantonnet.

The sonic direction of SOLAXIS synthesizes jazz, instrumental pop, 70s electro, and afrobeat. Complex polyrhythmic structures and hypnotic repeating motifs—drawing stylistic parallels to Frank Zappa, Steve Reich, and Kraftwerk—blend with the danceable groove of R&B. Tailor-made arrangements balance dense, multi-layered ensemble writing with expansive solo passages for all seven members.
