Musica Fiata - Pachelbel: Easter Cantatas (2004)

This is a work re-constructed from various cantatas of Pachbel to form an Easter Oratorio, which might or might have been Pachelbel's intention. The singing is extremely fine creating a seemless flowing whole punctuated with sparkling moments of great intense beauty, clarity and refinement. If you only know Pachelbel from his almost infamous Canon, this work will give you a completely different and perhaps more profound view of his talent. The booklet notes describe this work as "a bridge between 17th century opera and 18th century oratorios" (Handel ?). A splendid rarity; it's the only recording available of Pachelbel's sacred music. Highly recommended.
