This album is fantastic! The NJO possesses all of the qualities of greatness. The brilliant compositions by Pierre Dorge and Irene Becker are marvelously performed with unparalleled virtuosity, inventiveness, personality, and a wonderful sense of humor that is very inspiring. This cd along with their other Decapo releases Giraf, and ...Danish Jungle all feature strong melodies and great performances. Pierre Dorge is an exhilirating guitarist with an instantly recognizable sound. He and his ensemble deserve to be more widely appreciated. You'll be hard pressed to find many contemporary ensembles that contain so many rare qualities. Not unlike Mingus, or Thelonious Monk, the music is simultaneously classic and cutting edge. This is music that stands the test of time. If you're a fan of other adventurous jazz ensembles like the Either/Orchestra, Carla Bley Big Band, Nojo, Italian Instabile Orchestra, Ed Palermo Big Band, etc. Check out the NJO!
