Even if the repertoire on these recordings is "conventional", it is still possible today, several decades apart, to understand how radically, lucidly and rhythmically new standards Friedrich Gulda's playing must have set for his listeners at that time. The concerts summarized here demonstrate Gulda's amazing youthful mastery and maturity in interpretations of the classics that are as fresh as they are exciting.

Some of the recordings have never been available before: The recordings of Mozart's KV 491 and Beethoven's 4th Concerto, Haydn's Piano Concerto, the Strauss-Burlesque and the encore by Debussy can be heard here for the first time. Of course, the original master tapes from the years 1959-1962 were carefully remastered for this purpose.
