Erica Freas - Young (2020)

I've been working on this record for years and for a long time I didn't think it was going to be something I would share outside of close friends. Over the past year and half I used it as a place to put my creative focus while my life changed dramatically. In time, it bloomed and I'm happy to be sharing it. I recorded 'Young' myself, which isn't exactly new territory but tracking, mixing and finishing something for the general public was uncharted.

My dad is a woodworker and I imagined myself sanding and sanding... and sanding ... until these songs were as smooth as I could make them. Then I got it mastered by Mell Dettmer at Studio Soli. She was the varnish.

We’re so caught up in this moment with all the real pressures and challenges that mark our lives right now; this all-consuming moment. With these songs, I was thinking about what world we’re welcoming the next generation into and, similarly, how we approach our own futures and histories as we grow. These songs are about being alive, whether we’re new to it or have been around awhile.

There are lot of people I love in here, in the song contents and lending their voices or their perspective on how a song should shift or the sound should change. I really appreciate the support, it made me feel connected and like I had a path to walk during such a wild time.
