Blockbird features works written for recorder in Norway, from 1969 up to the present day. The recorder experienced a renaissance in the 1960s, when composers once again began to show an interest in the instrument. A number of them such as Olav Anton Thommessen in the title track Blockbird used associations with birds, a common theme on this recording. The recorder is heard both unaccompanied and, as in the three chamber music works, with piano, guitar, and organ. Since receiving Concerts Norway s prestigious recording grant Intro-klassisk, Caroline Eidsten Dahl has distinguished herself both as soloist and chamber musician. This is her debut as a recording artist.
