The Serres Chaudes CD was recorded with a love for the French song repertoire shared by the two artists Bettina Smith (mezzo-soprano) and Einar Røttingen (piano). The wish was to focus on lesser-known works by 3 masters of French art singing, or La Mélodie Francaise as it is called in the original language. The choice fell naturally on Chausson, Ernest: Serres Chaudes, Gabriel Fauré: Le Jardin Clos and Camille Saint-Saëns: La Cendre Rouge. Common to these cycles is that they are late opus and are considered among the composer's main works. This is French music with French language text from a limited time when European music underwent major style and genre changes. In addition, they have little progress and there are not many recordings of these. By Saint-Saëns: La Cendre Rouge, for example, there are no other recordings available. The texts also have in common that they fall under the concept of symbolism. On this new CD from Lawo, two prominent artists present song treasures that the audience has rarely had the opportunity to listen to.
