Jake Reed is a drummer based in Los Angeles, who is quickly gaining a reputation for his ability to fit into a variety of musical situations. From classic jazz to modern rock, his love of working in diverse musical contexts continues to keep him in demand in the studio and in the concert hall. His drumming can be heard on dozens of albums, films, television shows, and commercials. He has performed and/or recorded with Bill Holman, Bill Cunliffe, Bruce Forman, Cow Bop, Bob Mintzer, David Sills, Larry Koonse, Les McCann, Freda Payne, Seth MacFarlane, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, Kait Dunton, Trumpetology, the Vibrometers, Kiven, and many others.
Jake hails from Kansas City, one of the early hotbeds of jazz. He grew up listening to many local jazz and blues musicians in the Kansas City area, and started playing drums and percussion at age ten. It was this early exposure to live music coupled with an influential childhood teacher, Dennis Rogers, that sparked his passion to play music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music degree from the USC Thornton School of Music, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the USC Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Peter Erskine.
