While working on his previous CD Games and Dance, where he presented the listener to Johannes M. Rivertz '(1902-88) piano music, Rune Alver found some manuscripts with simple arrangements of famous Christmas songs that the composer had left behind. Elves says: That little piece sounded beautiful in the church room. This is how the thought of this Christmas CD came about.
Rivertz is not the only Norwegian composer who has arranged the famous and beloved Christmas songs. Fartein Valen's events are still popular and often played, and Rudolph Magnus Forwald's paraphrases of Christmas songs have become popular. They are represented on this record, along with a bunch of other composers from different eras. Characteristic of the events are the simple, quiet and listening.
The Christmas stories on this record are the grand old man of the theater and film world, Toralv Maurstad. In addition to well-known and beloved stories like Piken with the matches, Maurstad reads his own cage-reading Christmas novella Nissen, from the book For a Life - Stories I just told my friends (Kagge publishing house).
