VA - The Hate U Give (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2018)

This is the soundtrack for the 2018 film based on Angie Thomas' novel about a teenage girl (Amandla Stenberg) who witnesses her unarmed black friend (Algee Smith) being shot to death by a police officer.

Both the film and the novel take its title from the idea that 2Pac’s “Thug Life” slogan was meant as an acronym for “The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody.” Although the rapper’s own friends have refuted this notion, it’s still cited in the film by both the heroine’s friend and her father (Russell Hornsby).
