Lakvar ‘If the voice of a human being contains her entire universe, then it is the voice of Lakvar singer Hajnalka Péter. Her voice gives everything she is. And there is nothing more than giving oneself.’ Kincses Réka film director (for full statement see last page of this press release)

Lakvar are a Contemporary Folk Music group, founded by Hungarian-Bulgarian singer Hajnalka Péter and Georgian composer and guitarist Zura Dzagnidze. The band includes an array of talented and diverse musicians: Hungarian Jazz bass player Péter Papesch, Bulgarian-Turkish percussionist Tayfun Ates, German Jazz violin player Florian Vogel, Italian drummer Santino Scavelli and Lithuanian accordion player Aleksejs Maslakovs. Lakvar’s sound brings together the band’s musical and cultural backgrounds, drawing on roots in traditional Folk from East of Europe, Jazz, as well as progressive Rock and experimental influences. The music plays with darkness and light to create a unique sound. Strong and soaring melodies combine with complex rhythms, moments of stillness and fragility meet free and fearless improvisation and virtuosity.

Hajnalka's vocal character use different traditional styles to unlock gates to hidden emotional, emerging from the music like a mystical and ancient spell. Not limited by convention, LAKVAR take musical risks to break through the borders and boundaries of musical tradition and open up new path between them.

Eredics Áron (Vujicsics, Söndörgő, Hungary) on January 13th 2020 about the first CD-Release from the band Lakvar:
‘I think these days it is getting harder to take time. Giving yourself the time to be sensitive and opening yourself up for deeper experiences is not easy these days. Sometimes amongst the mass of worthless information, we need to find the moment when you find that time. This album is one of those moments of time. Let me tell you a story of when I first encountered with Hajnalka’s voice. I know her through my girlfriend and had heard about her musical talent but never heard her voice itself before. Hajnalka asked for my girlfriend’s opinion about a song which she was going to record. So my girlfriend put on the track and it appeared to be a field recording from Bulgaria with an old lady singing a lullaby. That was what I thought! It turned out it was Hajnalka. She had sung that lullaby. I was amazed. What I feel now when I listen to this record is some kind of ancient power paired with a great sensitivity. It is traditional and contemporary at the same time. This is a hard thing to achieve. Great music made with love for us all. It is truly worth taking your time for.’
