Almost a century away, it seemed interesting to compare these works by Franz Liszt and Lili Boulanger which bear witness to a common aesthetic vision marked by nostalgia, lyricism and deep exaltation.

Franz Liszt's Tre Sonetti del Petrarca are first of all melodies for voice and piano, composed in the years 1838-1839 and are presented here in an original arrangement by Marie-Laure Boulanger for trio and quartet.

A hundred years after her death, the memory and work of Lili Boulanger shines thanks to the power of her language and the originality of her inspiration. His very personal style combines subtle harmony with great expressive depth, almost mystical. His chamber music compositions are featured in this recording.

The Ensemble Reflets was founded in May 2012. Marie-Laure Boulanger, pianist, and Thierry Durand, flautist, met at CMA 9 in Paris where they both teach; they then formed a trio with Françoise Douchet, violist at the Paris Orchestra, and the soprano Magali Léger joined them for a first concert-event on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Claude Debussy and 50th of the death of Jacques Ibert. In 2013, the Association Piano Cantate produced its first album with the release of the recording of these two French composers, including an original arrangement of Epigraphes Antiques by Debussy for flute, viola and piano. This second chamber music album is dedicated to Lili Boulanger and Franz Liszt.
