Saxophonist Rob Batie has been drawing listeners in with the power, spirit and subtle complexity of his music since he bounded onto the jazz scene in 2000. At 27, Rob was answering the call of his long-standing passion for jazz, stepping away from main-stream corporate America to carry out his dream. Once in action as a musician, Rob quickly gained an enthusiastic following, as music fans responded to the St. Augustine Florida raised musician and his new soul jazz and smooth romantic tone, calling it “impeccably smart with highly addicting energy.” Rob pulls from every emotion inside to deliver an unforgettable performance time after time.
In the years since, Rob has won over listeners and critics at high-profile jazz venues across the country and internationally, including the Heidelburg Castle in Germany, the famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem New York, Churchill Downs in Atlanta, Miami Live at Santos, Betty Wright House, Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame Ceremony, and he has performed as the headliner and opening act for various artists such as Musiq Soul Child, Carl Thomas, Boney James, Walter Beasley, Nestor Torres, performing in Washington DC, Miami, Los Angeles, and other cities across the US, and Canada. In addition, each of his three CD's, Tunnel Vision, Jazz Hustler, & LoveX3 has earned sterling reviews and strong airplay, with his noted song, Part of Me landing Top Five on Radio and Records Smooth Jazz. And Jazz Hustler ranked between the soundtrack from Ray, the motion picture and Kenny G's At Last The Duets album by Jazz Charts Top 40.
Born Robert T. Batie he began playing the saxophone at the age of nine years old. As a child he and his family moved often due to his father serving in the military. He has lived in cities such as Guam, NY, GA, VA and Europe. While his home address changed frequently, the one constant in his life was music and sports. By the time he graduated from high school in Manassas VA, the young musician could play all four saxophones, as well as keyboards.
After completing a tour of duty in the United States Air Force and upon discharge Rob attended the University of Maryland. As a walk-on athlete he became an outstanding running back for the Maryland Terrapins Football team. He holds degrees in Air Transportation and Liberal Arts.
Praise for Rob's performance and recordings has been unceasing, Upscale Magazine followed his music amongst other greats such as John Legend, Common and The Roots. He has appeared on several morning television/radio shows and has been the feature story of many entertainment articles in newspapers across the country.
Perhaps famed saxophonist Najee put things succinctly when he said “Batie, you are all the way ready, you have to find a way to put your music out there, now!”
A well-rounded professional, Rob has held acting roles in Miami Vice starring Jamie Foxx, CSI Miami, Burn Notice, The Glades, and has appeared in several national television commercials, and independent films.
Long time jazz enthusiasts and new comers rave about Rob's performances. This ability to capture the hearts and minds in all ends of the jazz spectrum has made Rob a force to be reckoned with in modern new jazz around the world.
