The Diomede duo created by Grzegorz Tarwid and Tomasz Markanicz three years after the well-received debut People From East comes back with new material. The signboard itself informs listeners that changes should be expected - in addition to the saxophone and keyboards, drums also appeared. Hubert Zemler, one of the most creative and versatile contemporary Polish drummers, sat behind the set. The extension of the composition had to bring changes: Hubert is a supporter of collective improvisation, but also an opponent of the solo approach. Thanks to him, we understood that the essence of our music is not in inventing specific forms for the solo parts of each musician, but in the joint juggling of melodies and rhythmics - that's what Grzegorz Tarwid says about Zemler's participation.

Chants differ significantly from the band's previous release. There is simply more going on in the new songs. Some of them are still from the beginning of our activity, while others were written specifically for Hubert. While working on this album, we tried to avoid a schematic division into the subject and improvisation - informs Tarwid. All this makes Diomede in its current configuration focuses on generating team tension, which leads to the formation of intriguing repetitions. The title "Songs" certainly comes from a certain repetition, which we chose as the main element in the development of these songs. It is also a reference to the first album on which we were inspired by the aesthetics of Eastern folk - the keyboardist sums up this thread. The tracks on the disc are characterized by great catchiness that penetrates virtually all the material. It seems to me that on this album we went deeper into the ideas of melody as something that does not require creating a "bottom", which usually in our case is improvisation - adds Tarwid.
