2017 Darryl Williams
aving spent last 25 years performing with the likes of Chaka Khan, Tevin Campbell, Howard Hewitt, Angela Bofill and Evan Marks, San Diego based bass-man Darryl Williams stepped out of the shadows in 2008 with the solo CD ‘That Was Then’. It included ten of Williams own compositions and confirmed the fact that he was, and remains, very much the real contemporary jazz deal.
Currently he can be found playing bass for some of the biggest names in smooth jazz including Peter White, Euge Groove, Michael Lington, Gerald Albright, Keiko Matsui and Richard Elliot while, in addition, he has just serviced the hot new single ‘Here To Stay’ to radio.
It features Euge Groove on sax with additional contributions from drummer Tony Moore, Michael Simms on guitar and Ronnie Foster on keys. Not only that, with a superbly hypnotic mid tempo vibe that is tailor made for Williams’ distinctive work on bass this might just be one of the best tracks of 2017.
