Yunzero - Blurry Ant (2020)

Lillerne #117 is “Blurry Ant” by Yunzero! I’ve been extremely fascinated with the process by which Melbourne’s Jim Sellars composes and pieces together these tracks. In his own words, the source material is “made from sounds on YouTube videos, tape collections, lost parts of the internet, or really hard to decipher notes I write myself at work and try and translate when I get home.” While this initially sounds like a mess on paper, Sellars manages to arrange and assemble these bits and pieces into truly remarkable compositions. Layer upon layer of sound that has been sampled and re-sampled and re-re-re-sampled to create often strange, but immensely approachable tunes. Rhythmically complex, lush, head-bobbingly good music with a sense of humor and space. Edition of 50 pro-dubbed cassettes with full-color, double-sided artwork by James Vinciguerra.
