Carlos Barbosa-Lima is not a jazz musician, but his beautiful solo acoustic guitar recordings should appeal to jazz fans. On this CD, he interprets compositions by a variety of mostly lesser-known Brazilian composers, along with works by Laurindo Almeida, pianist Bobby Scott, Irving Berlin ("Always"), "I Got Rhythm," and three pieces by Dave Brubeck. Possessor of a very attractive sound and impressive technique, Barbosa-Lima is able to convey a wide variety of emotions while remaining true to each composer's ideas.
