Space! Lazer blasts! Vocoders! 70's and 80's-poptronic, ambient, 8-bit, sound design and vocal cuttery-uppery, Andrew R Bird is back with "Control". Traditional musical heritage is evident in the textural push and pull of this surprising and dynamic album but this album goes back to some of his more electronic roots, drawing influence from 70's and 80's electronica and pre-internet era audio production. A year and a half in the making, early stages of production included literally dusting off the old samplers and floppy disks, warming up the analogue synths, cranking up the modular and of course no Andrew R Bird album is complete without the occasional dulcimer, guitar, duduk, drum kits (electric and acoustic) and glockenpeil. There's always a glockenspeil! Featuring the incredible vocals talents of Anil Sebastian, Sian O'Gorman and Rebecca Whitbread (AKA Lovelace), "Control" is composed end to end for true music listeners and audiophiles, taking us back to the complete "album journey" and reminding us of those wonderful Jeff Wayne or Jean Michelle Jarre years, when an entire album could be enjoyed for decades.
