The desire for this album has accompanied me for many years. Organic music that moves between composed melodies and free improvisation. My first jazz album.
We owe the special chamber music line-up of trombone, double bass and guitar to my friend and very esteemed colleague David Ruosch. David is an excellent pianist who lives alternately in Zurich and Vienna. I use every opportunity to make music with him during his stays in Vienna. So we decided to have a private session with four of us again, but obviously talked past each other when making an appointment. David didn't come and so there were three of us left. As soon as we played the first songs, it was clear to us - that sounds special! This airiness, the breaks, the transparency is very appealing.
It was also clear to me that it had to be played live and recorded on tape without a computer! That's exactly how we did it.
Georg Schrattenholzer has been by my side as co-arranger and trombonist for years. His level-headed and project-oriented manner, paired with tasteful musicality, make him the kind of colleague you could wish for.
Georg Buxhofer has been playing with me since 2010, always in the service of the song. It took me a while to realize that he could play the piano and guitar in addition to the bass. He sees the big picture in songs and doesn't get lost in the little things - this is one of the reasons why he is such an important musician for me.
I am also very happy with our guest Duke Robillard. A terrific guitarist I've loved since my teenage days. It is an honor that he is now playing on my album!
