The director William Friedkin chose Wang Chung to compose the soundtrack was because he thought that the band, at that time, stood out from the rest of contemporary music. He felt that what was finally recorded not only enriched the film, it was deeper and gave more potent dimension. It transpires that Friedkin wanted Wang Chung to compose the score for the movie after listening to the band's previous album, `Points on the Curve'. He even used the song "Wait" as part of the soundtrack. In fact, every song on the soundtrack, discounting the title song and "Wait", was written and recorded within a two-week period.
