Søyr, Norwegian jazz orchestra with a continuous experimental profile, established 1976; usually consisting of 9-10 musicians. Until the mid-1980s, the orchestra consisted mainly of Trøndelag performers, after that time it was based in Oslo. Leader and driving force has always been Torgrim Sollid; Among others who have participated are Bjørn Alterhaug, John Pål Inderberg, Tove Karoline Knutsen, Rune Klakegg, Rob Waring, Elin Rosseland, Eldbjørg Raknes, Morten Halle and Vidar Johansen. The starting point for the music in the first years was folk music from Østerdalen. used impulses from composed contemporary music, collaborated with lyricists and used visual means.
