Jex Opolis, the Canadian musician, DJ and producer, will release his debut LP this spring.
“Ravines” is a diverse, nine-tune collection for all seasons—from the Brian Wilson-in-Ibiza waltz of “Après-MIDI” to the cosmic hug chug of “Wild Conceits.”
The tracks were conceived at Jex’s home studio in Brooklyn, with live instrumentation added at NYC’s famed Oscilloscope Laboratories, alongside engineers Andre Kelman (Phoenix, the Beastie Boys) and CZ Wang (Mood Hut).
After several years of club-focused singles, Jex says the record was birthed through a desire to explore melody and traditional pop structures.
“Working on this record was about redefining my craft. Like a kid exploring the forest—building new structures, finding new textures. Having fun but also spooking yourself a little.”
Likewise, the title is a nod Jex's childhood expeditions in the woods of rural Canada.
