The album "Copenhagen Session Vol. 2" is the second volume of recordings from the 2016 Danish "Summer Session" workshop, featuring the late legendary Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stańko performing with the young Scandinavian Art Ensemble (SAE), an octet from six Scandinavian countries and Poland. The recording captures Stańko in peak form shortly before his death and highlights his synergy with the SAE. The ensemble, comprising two trumpets, saxophone, vibes, piano, bass, drums, and vocals, provides a kindred environment for Stańko's introspective, minimalistic, and unhurried style. His signature, melancholic sound blends well with the moody yet restrained dynamics of the SAE, which feel like an extension of his musical tradition. The album serves as a powerful reminder of his greatness while also showcasing the SAE members who have since pursued their individual European musical careers.
