Calicantus is the first album of unreleased solo songs by Valentina Nicolotti, a Turin jazz singer.
From his original songs emerges a style born of constant experimentation, knowledge of traditions and a passionate spirit. A story that reworks and enhances the identity of different genres by creating an intimate and sincere music, capable of thrilling with simplicity.
Ample space is given to improvisation and interplay, a legacy of jazz music and an authentic expressive mode of the entire group.
The band is formed by Nicola Meloni on keyboards and piano, Gianmaria Ferrario on bass and double bass and Francesco Brancato on drums and electronic drums. Some songs see the participation of guests such as Max Carletti on electric guitar, Cesare Mecca on flugelhorn and Giangiacomo Parigini on acoustic guitar.
The sound of the group focuses on the multifaceted voice of the singer who is also the author of all the music and lyrics (except a jazz standard).
