The Flaming Mudcats return with another brilliant slab of their eclectic roots infused tunes, full of toe tapping, good soul feeling stuff. Craig Bracken’s jazzy vocals ring true and clear on their second offering, that makes you turn the volume up that little bit louder.
Tracks like Can’t Take It With You and My Baby Rocks embody everything you know and like about Roots as a genre, whether it’s Blues, Jazz, Soul, Funk or RnB. Tracks such as Why’d You Break My Heart have a more funk/jazz mix that makes you want to get up on that dance floor and boogie, and Breaking Up Somebody Home has a definite Elvis croon feel to it, listen and get lost in the trumpets and great guitar solos by guitarist, Doug Bygrave.
Drinking My Life Away is a stand out track. Get drawn in by the mesmerizing harmonica intro and down and out awesome vocals with a lingering sweet melody then prepare to be up again on the very hip swinging Heavy.
If you were a fan of the Flaming Mudcats debut, Gave You What You Wanted go out and buy Mistress; your ears won’t be disappointed!
