For decades it rested in a church pillar high up in Stettin's Jacobi Church: the heart of Carl Loewe. In his will, the composer had decreed to bury his heart near the beloved organ - he played it as an organist and cantor for 46 years. The organ was destroyed in World War II, but its heart was found during restoration work in 2012. It was ceremoniously laid to rest again, with Roman Trekel there. The Kammersänger is an honorary member of the Carl Loewe Society, which supported a complete recording of the works in the 1990s. For this project he had sung Loewe ballads - music that Roman Trekel has been with for a long time since his father sang it at home. Roman Trekel is attracted to this romantically transfigured world of ballads, even though it is in constant competition with Schubert or Schumann. It's music for thoroughbred performers, and Roman Trekel gets his money's worth. "And I hope my audience too!"
