Post-Sun-Vision is a modern, award-winning, jazz trio whose music has been described as easily accessible avant-garde. With their unique sound and compositions, they have been described as one of the country's most promising groups with the potential to drive the genre's development forward. The compositions are often elaborated in a modern classical tradition but at the same time free and invite spontaneity and a lot of improvisation.
Both the titles and the music on the album Once a honey express a story about relationships, about attitudes towards people around them and about themselves. The music is inspired by internal conflicts and how we handle things we have no power over. It is about the relationship with the beggar outside the grocery store, the relationship with his ex, with his partner through the struggle with infertility, the struggle for his sexual freedom, his openness to develop as a human being, the eternal upbringing of society of which we are all a part, infertility and the relationship to a child that does not exist and may never exist.
The trio - Alice Hernqvist, piano and synth, Aaron Mandelmann, bass and Mario Ochoa, drums - strive for an expression beyond what we are used to hearing and feeling. With a different way of treating harmonics, they present an honest expression that creates excitement and uncertainty but still feels accessible and fairly easy to listen to, a bit like the excitement of being lost in a new city.
Mario Ochoa is the composer of the music, but the trio works a lot with the material together. Everyone brings with them their strengths and competencies that create a unique end result. Mario himself is active in improvisational music and several types of modern, experimental music in both jazz and art music.
Pianist Alice Hernqvist's musical experiences range from art music to modern Israeli music and all types of jazz. Bassist Aaron Mandelmann is also an acclaimed musician on the Nordic jazz scene, not least as a member of the Grammy-nominated group Megalodon Collective.
The members are, to say the least, experienced in the music world and their combined merits include touring in South Africa, Australia, Italy, Poland and Germany, among others.
Post-Sun-Vision is during 2020-2021 one of two groups in Music in Syd's Ensemble In Residence program, EIR. Through EIR, Musik i Syd, by contributing expertise, networks and financial support, wants to support and create conditions for an international establishment of young southern Swedish musicians.
