This Quiet Fire is the first full-length studio album in more than a decade from Australian dream pop/slowcore veterans Heligoland. Off the back of a series of experimental, ambitious EP releases throughout the 2010s, This Quiet Fire finds the band going back to basics. Succinct lead single “Palomino” is a case in point. Written and recorded at an idyllic studio retreat in western France and a home studio in the suburbs of Paris, This Quiet Fire is the first Heligoland release helmed by founding duo Karen Vogt (vocals, guitar) and Steve Wheeler (bass, guitar). The lush, enveloping sound of This Quiet Fire is courtesy of Robin Guthrie, whose highly evocative productions have graced the group’s most recent releases. After a little more than two decades spent quietly exploring the margins of dreampop, folk, slowcore, and shoegaze, Heligoland’s journey appears far from over.
