Sir Malcolm Sargent, conductor
Along with Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Thomas Beecham and Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Malcolm Sargent was one of the four leading British conductors in the decades following World War II, and is remembered internationally for his wide range as a conductor. In this regard, his performances of the music of Jean Sibelius were always exceptionally well received, and we are very pleased to present this new transfer of several of his most memorable Sibelius recordings from the 1950s with the BBC Symphony Orchestra of which he was chief conductor for many years. The beautifully recessed EMI recordings have been lovingly restored, with the result that later generations can well appreciate the undoubted qualities of this greatly-admired conductor. Exceptional musical quality and value for money.
