Sweet Apple (Columbia 30238) only LP was released in December of 1970, and it kind of looks like Columbia overlooked promoting these guys at all, maybe because a few of the members were addicted to heroin, or because they didn't know exactly how to promote it. It seems like the group's intent was to get away from the blues-based feeling of Electric Flag, and move into something more akin to the Black Renaissance sound that was bubbling up all around with artists like Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and many others raising the consciousness of everyone with their positive messages of unity. There is a real urban feel to the grooves and many are pretty danceable, too.

As far as personnel, Sweet Apple was produced by Harvey Brooks (bassist for Electric Flag) and features ex-Electric Flag/Taj Mahal guitarist HOSHAL WRIGHT along with Marcus Doubleday, Frank Davis, Steve Mitchell, Bobby Reid, Raoul Smith, and Danny Saunders. ~comment from amazon
