Between the intricate strums and sparse percussion of Makhulu, Venda singer/guitarist Muneyi crafts an ode to his grandmother. The heartfelt "Fhuwe La Makhulu" references traditional customs, while the Zoë Modiga duet "Mbidzo" attests to the power of prayer and spirituality. On "Tshifiwa," Ogudlumkhukhu's maskandi coalesces with Muneyi's Afro-folk before the acoustic rhythms of "Mvula," with TaXda and Sfiso Atomza, serve as a tranquil denouement.
