Jori Huhtala (born in 1984) is a Finnish bass player. Originally brought up in Jyväskylä in central Finland Jori became interested in jazz music in early age. He began his studies at his hometown and later on moved to Helsinki to study at the Sibelius Academy’s Jazz Music Department, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in 2014.
Mainly focusing on jazz music, he performs and records with a numerous top artists in Finland, e.g. Eero Koivistoinen, Raoul Björkenheim, Jussi Fredriksson, Pope Puolitaival and Sid Hille. His long-standing bands include the groups Kvalda and Big Blue, both of which have received international acclaim for their original sound. He has also collaborated with many of the leading jazz artists of the world, such as David Liebman, Billy Hart, Tim Hagans, Tim Ries, Jukkis Uotila and Severi Pyysalo.
Huhtala is an active composer and he has written music for many of the groups he performs with. Currently Jori is focusing on his new group formed around his producer studio project TALAMBO. His previous album with the group Jori Huhtala 3 was nominated for the Emma Awards Best Jazz Album category in 2018. Huhtala made his debut release as a band leader in 2015 with his quintet Jori Huhtala 5.

JORI HUHTALA 5 is the latest vision of the bassist-composer. He has gathered his favorite musicians to interpret his compositions that move back and forth on jazz music's broad field, taking influences from pop music and film scores, among other styles. The music is both swinging and free-pulsative, beautiful and harsh, modern and old fashioned.
