Pianist Jimmy Rowles, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Donald Bailey make for a perfect trio on this CD, performing swinging and tasteful music that has lots of subtle creativity and close interplay. Most of the songs are standards, but Rowles contributes "After School," and there are also three Mitchell originals, including "You People Need Music" and "Life's a Take." Each of the old friends sounds inspired by each others' presence, and the music is as rewarding as one would expect.~Scott Yanow
