This new release is the world premiere recording of Marco Tutino’s one act opera, Le Braci (“Embers”). Italian composer Marco Tutino based the plot of his opera Le braci (Embers) on a famous novel by Hungarian writer Sándor Márai. Set against the ruins of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Le braci tells the story of a broken friendship, of the inevitability of the ageing process, and of violent feelings that remain smouldering beneath the ashes of the past. The opera revolves around the reunion between an elderly general, Henrik, and his best friend from military school, Konrad. Both men loved the same woman, Kristina. Forty years on, the two men meet again to speak about the past and about Kristina, now long dead. Their conversation is a deep meditation on love, friendship and morality.
Adaptation of the famous novel by Hungarian Sándor Márai, Le Braci tells the meeting in 1940 of two old childhood friends who first met each other at the Military Academy of Vienna: Henrik (the son of a Hungarian prince) and Konrad (belonging to a Polish lower middle class family). They loved the same woman, Krisztina, but she married Henrik. Konrad suddenly left for the tropics and the colonies, after a hunt that threatened to turn into a murder and, forty years later, the two men see each other again one last time to evoke the past and talk again of Krisztina, dead many years ago. Will Henrik be able to finally know the truth about the assassination attempt of Konrad and the infidelity of his wife?
“A veritable sound track capable of transferring to and expressing in music the strong tensions that characterize this tormented story.” (Fabrizio Basciano)
