Bruno Walter - Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 7 & 8 (2019) [Hi-Res]

This recording of the Beethoven Symphony #7 by Bruno Walter and the Columbia Symphony is, to my mind, the definitive performance. The entire rendition shimmers with beauty, and the final movement is carried along on a bright beam of triumphant energy. The whole performance is perfused with the confidence of the master conductor, Walter, who obviously strives to capture the fiery spirit of the composer, Beethoven. And he succeeds. The recording of the 8th Symphony is almost equally impressive, but I do not feel competent to review the performance, as I haven't listened to enough different renditions. But by all means, get this CD while it still can be gotten. -- ArkivMusic.com
