Richmond-based band Carbon Leaf has released its latest project, Love Love Hope Repeat Reneaux (LLHRR). LLHRR is a full re-recording and re-imagining of the band’s 2006 release, Love Loss Hope Repeat.
“After coming off of a successful two year tour behind Indian Summer (2004), the label was eager to keep momentum going so we dove head first into the studio without really having the new songs developed,” says Carbon Leaf’s front man Barry Privett. Love Loss Hope Repeat was recorded in Nashville with famed Producer Peter Collins (Bon Jovi, Rush, LeAnn Rimes). “Underdeveloped songs coupled with an extremely small window for recording resulted in an album of songs we believed in, but that just didn’t reach their recorded potential. For this re-recording, we get the chance to address all of the things we didn’t like, or that didn’t work the first time. Now, Love Loss Hope Repeat Reneaux is a completely different album. 2006 was a blurry time and we were left scratching our heads, vowing not to adhere to a schedule just for the sake of keeping on schedule if the work is not done.”
This time last year Carbon Leaf re-recorded its 2004 breakout album, Indian Summer, dubbing the project Indian Summer Revisited. The desire to re-record each project satisfies both the creative updates the band would like to add to each album, as well as the ability to reclaim full ownership of the albums. In the case of Love Loss Hope Repeat, Carbon Leaf has used this opportunity to radically update the tracks, which includes adding verses that were originally cut, renaming tracks, and even re-sequencing the project.
