With their heady mix of shoegaze, alt-rock, and jangly psych pop, Yast are an unlikely export from the small Swedish steel town of Sandviken. Initially formed as a trio in 2007 by Calle Jensen, Marcus Norberg, and Tobias Widman, the three friends eventually relocated to Malmö where they enlisted the rhythm section of Markus Johansson and Niklas Wennerstrand to complete their lineup. After years of writing, refining, and gigging, Yast (whose name is an acronym for Youth and Student Travel) delivered a handful of singles in 2012 leading up to the release of their self-titled 2013 debut on Adrian Records. Self-described as lo-fi romantics, their first album was well-received internationally and soon the band was sharing bills with TOY, DIIV, Tame Impala, and other like-minded acts. Their follow-up, My Dreams Finally Did Come True, arrived in 2015. ~ Timothy Monger.
