The Staatskapelle Berlin can now look back on a history of 450 years, with all sorts of upheavals and reorientations. The Kurbrandenburgische Hofkapelle, first mentioned in 1570, forms the origin of the ensemble that became the Royal Prussian Court Orchestra in the 18th century and, after the November Revolution of 1918, the Staatskapelle Berlin. It had long since developed into a large, powerful opera and symphony orchestra, with important artists at the top.
